Hacking Firefox: The secrets of about:config

Discover more than 20 behind-the-scenes tweaks for speeding up page loads, reducing memory drain and making the interface behave the way you want it to
Here is an example on how to do the config.
This is something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:
- Type about:config into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. - Alter the entries as follows:Set network.http.pipelining to true
Set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true
Set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. - Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it layout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0?. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
If you have any problems here’s a video explaining the above procedure:

Thanks Vishal!
For your problem:
Try unistalling then reinstalling. This takes care of most problems.
You can also visit the Yahoo! Messenger Help page if not already done.

There is a security update available here
I use Yahoo! Messenger with Voice(8.0.0.701).
I have not installed the java runtime still it is working for me.
If you use a firewall, configure it to allow YIM if already not done so.

Thanks for the info. Is this going to screw up cookies or have any other side effects because I see something about proxies in there.

Hi Brian,
As said on many sites there isn’t any side effect for this tweak.
