Changing file extension in Windows

I don’t understand why there are softwares available to change the extension of a file in Windows.

To change the extension of a file do the following:

1] Go to
Control Panel => Folder Options => View
OR
Windows Explorer => Tools => Folder Options =>View

2] Uncheck (if checked) the option

windows_folder_options

Hide file extensions for known file types

Without Extension:

windows_file_extension

With Extension:windows_file_extension

Actually it is a text document renamed with a .mp3 extension.
Renaming it again using the above method:

windows_file_extension

Thats it!

If you want you can again choose to hide the extension by the same method.
